For online thieves, Rajesh Ramanand is a serious adversary. After recognizing that the ecommerce industry relied on an outdated score-based system which left online retailers vulnerable to fraud, Ramanand resigned as head of risks on PayPal’s Emerging Market team to build a new approach called “Guaranteed Fraud Protection” based on machine learning. Signifyd was born.

Today, Signifyd supports thousands of merchants worldwide by managing fraud for them while preventing chargeback losses. Their client base is versatile and they support sellers who specialize in everything from luxury watches to pet supplies to electric scooters. This year, it has been included in Inc. Magazine’s “Best Workplaces” and Entrepreneur’s “Top Company Cultures.” It has also garnered recognition from Gartner, Forbes, TechCrunch, and Bloomberg.

Ramanand is a member of the SVBJ’s 40 Under 40 class for 2017. To read all of the profiles, go to this link.

He said his best career move was working at FedEx and PayPal. “FedEx taught me how a big company works and PayPal taught me a lot about the risk industry,” he said.

Ramanand gives back by making it an annual tradition to donate money for the educational expenses of underprivileged children in India, his country of birth.
