For the fourth year in a row, Signifyd was named one of the Bay Area’s Best Places to Work by Northern California’s leading business journals.

The award, presented by the Silicon Valley Business Journal and the San Francisco Business Times, is more than just a recognition of the work we do at Signifyd, both for our ecommerce customers and with our team members internally. It’s also a sign that our company values and culture stay on track as we expand with new products and into new regions.

Commitment to culture

In ranking Signifyd number 16 among mid-sized companies (between 100 to 249 employees), the Silicon Valley Business Journal and the San Francisco Business Times cited key Signifyd initiatives that focus on creating the best employee experience and engagement at work:

  • Manager training: Third-party and in-house manager roundtables each month help managers develop better experiences for their employees
  • Compensation: A consistent and transparent system helps employees understand what they need to do to achieve the next level of their career goals
  • Career development: Free LinkedIn Learning licenses for each employee to empower them to drive their own personal and professional development

We see the above values (and so much more) as important ways Signifyd can continue to grow at scale. When we opened our new research and development center in Belfast in February, we knew that a unified and clear culture was essential to attract and retain the top talent that has made Signifyd the market leader in the ecommerce fraud protection space.

The best Silicon Valley companies stay competitive because they build great teams. Recognition from leading business publications like the Silicon Valley Business Journal and the San Francisco Business Times reinforce our company values and push us to continue to strive for the top.

“Fast growth and global expansion aren’t easy, but we are pleased to say that our employees embraced these challenges and opportunities with their trademark hunger, curiosity and determination,” said Emily Mikailli, Signifyd’s senior director of human resources. “It has been immensely satisfying to see our Belfast team modeling the same incredible traits as it grows, and to see our global teams work so well together across different time zones and modes of communication. We are definitely feeling like a big, cohesive unit and are looking forward to the growth ahead!”

For and by employees

The companies in the 2019 Best Places to Work lineup were selected based on employee evaluations. Thousands of Bay Area workers were asked to complete an assessment that measures their company on such values as trust in leadership, collaborative culture, personal engagement and satisfaction of individual needs through great benefits and perks. The list includes companies with employees in 12 Northern California counties: Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Monterey, Napa, San Benito, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Solano and Sonoma.

Happy employees drive these yearly rankings. Signifyd’s commitment to excellent customer service for our thousands of customers carries over to our internal commitment to each other.

Investing in each other

Maintaining employee engagement is a challenge for companies, especially in Silicon Valley. Add to that the accelerating growth that Signifyd has experienced in recent months and the challenge becomes all the more difficult. Our teams invest in maintaining and improving work life for everyone, so our efforts show up each day when we show up for work.

Signifyd offers top-notch benefits that Silicon Valley job seekers expect: unlimited personal time off, free lunch and snacks, on-site workout facilities and fun times — like impromptu ping pong matches and group orders for boba tea.

The cliche in the awards world is that it’s an honor just to be nominated. In our case, the nomination means everything to us. It’s our fellow employees recognizing that we’re doing the right thing by doing right by each other. We have work to do — namely maintain our focus while continuing to build our culture. But there is no lack of motivation.

After all, a year from now, who wouldn’t want to say that they work at one of the Bay Area’s Best Places to Work for the fifth year in a row?
