Tackling the new frontier in fraud – Consumer abuse

The primary goal for any risk analyst is to prevent fraudulent transactions from being fulfilled. Thankfully, with the help of machine learning and a global network of transaction intelligence to lean on, it’s actually pretty easy for analysts to determine which orders are unauthorized (or were paid for using stolen credentials) and should be declined.

Where the waters get murky is when the person trying to score a discount or swindle free product is actually the legitimate cardholder him / herself. This phenomenon of consumer abuse has long been treated as a cost of doing business, primarily because it’s far more difficult than fraud to detect in the card-not-present world. But with custom policy management from Signifyd’s Decision Center, risk analysts can leverage the same data points – like device information, email data and network intelligence – Signifyd’s fraud detection models have relied on for years to finally put an end to consumer abuse.
