Signifyd Named one of Inc. Magazine’s Best Places to Work in 2018

Signifyd continues to be one of the best places in the country to go to work, according to Inc. Magazine’s Best Workplaces for 2018, which surveys nearly 2,000 companies in the United States.

The company was also named to the 2017 list, but the truth is, this stuff never gets old.

For the past three years, Inc. has worked with Quantum Workplace to determine the best places to work based on the benefits companies offer and on the responses to a unique 30-question survey answered by employees at the companies seeking the distinction. Inc. selected just 300 firms for the award from the more than 1,800 that applied for consideration, according to Inc.

The 2018 honor is especially satisfying for Signifyd. The second consecutive honor comes at a time when the company is growing rapidly, a state of change that can make it difficult to maintain the corporate culture fostered when a company had fewer employees.

“Overall, we are incredibly proud of what we continue to build here as we grow, and the way we’ve been able to maintain the best things and improve upon everything else consistently,” Signifyd’s nomination said.

The best workplaces have a sense of purpose

Inc. said in its news release that after conducting the Best Workplace process, it concluded that being a place where people want to work has to do with more than just good pay and perks. “It’s also having a clear purpose, a sense of humor, and leadership that makes them all work together.”

Inc. and Quantum said that in researching the companies that responded to the survey, they noticed several themes, including:

  • Strong company cultures produce stunning performances by both individuals and teams.
  • Employees at the best companies don’t view their employers as beneficent gift-givers. They are not obsessed with the latest fads or perks, whether its free food, logo-wear or cold beer.
  • When employees are valued by their employers they are far more likely to be engaged workers. In fact, a sense of feeling valued was one of the biggest drivers of engagement.

The findings make sense in Signifyd’s case. Signifyd is the largest provider of guaranteed fraud protection for ecommerce merchants. The company, founded in 2011, exists to help merchants provide friction-free customer experiences for their customers without the fear of fraud.

The work requires tremendous focus and flexibility as fraudsters are constantly changing their tools and tactics. Signifyd uses big data, machine learning and expert manual order review to stay one step ahead of the fraudsters. Beyond technical prowess, heading off professional fraud rings requires empathy for online merchants, none of whom went into business to become fraud protection experts.

Team work is one key to a great workplace

Successfully protecting merchants from fraud also requires the sort of teamwork and independent decision making that Inc. and Quantum pointed to as a key factor in building an engaged workforce.

The Inc. honor comes about a month after the Silicon Valley Business Journal and the San Francisco Business Times named Signifyd among the “Bay Area’s Best Places to Work” for the third year in a row.

Those of us who work at Signifyd always figured it was a special place to be. Even so, it’s always nice to know that outside observers agree.
